Interior
o	Monitor interior wall/ceiling corners and around windows for water stains or damage.1
o	Inspect exposed electrical components for damage or wear.2
o	Test Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters.
o	Occasionally run water in seldom used sinks, showers, toilets and floor drains. Water can dry out in traps.
o	If you go on vacation, have a neighbor check the house periodically to make sure the heat is working.
o	Replace furnace filters monthly.
o	Monitor windows for frost or fogging.
Exterior
o	Shovel snow from driveways and walks before car and foot traffic make it difficult to remove.
o	Watch for “ice dams” that build up near the edge of the roof.3 Ice dams are caused by warm air leaking through into the attic and causing the snow to melt. When the snow/water refreezes it creates a dam and damages shingles and can allow water to drip into the attic. CAUTION: Removing the ice damns can also damage the shingles. The best bet is prevention.
This page contains general maintenance tips for most homes. The systems discussed or pictured may differ from those in your home. Please refer to the video from the day of your inspection.

Winter Maintenance Checklist
1-Stains or pealing paint near exterior walls or around windows and doors may indicate water leaks.
2-Burn or scorch marks on any electrical fixture could indicate larger problems and should be evaluated by an electrician.
3-The best way to prevent ice dams is reducing heat loss and improving ventilation. Other methods include installing heating cables and using a roof rake.
